Dr. Sabitha Pillai-Friedman

Dr. Sabitha Pillai-Friedman received her doctorate degree from the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research at Bryn Mawr College. She is an Associate Professor at the Center for Human Sexuality Studies at Widener University where she teaches courses on couple and sex therapy. Before accepting her academic position at Widener University in 2011, Dr. Pillai-Friedman practiced psychotherapy at Council for Relationships (CFR) from 2002 -2010 and served as the Director of Sex Therapy Programs at CFR from 2010-2011. She held the position of Adjunct/ Assistant Professor at the Couple and Family Therapy Graduate Program at the Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia from 2008-2011. Dr. Pillai-Friedman has authored peer-viewed journal articles and book chapters on couples and sex therapy.

Dr. Pillai-Friedman was trained in family therapy at the Family Institute of Philadelphia and in couple therapy and sex therapy at the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia. She has specialized training in PAIRS® (Practical Application of Intimate Relationship Skills) and in PREPARE/ENRICH, a program developed to work effectively with couples preparing to make a commitment and those who are in committed relationships. Dr. Pillai-Friedman is also trained in guided imagery, mindfulness and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She is an American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) certified sex therapist and AASECT approved supervisor.

Dr. Pillai-Friedman has been a psychotherapist for nearly twenty-five years and she has a wealth of experience working with individuals and couples in all stages of the life cycle. She continues to maintain a clinical practice in Philadelphia and practices individual, relational and sex therapy. A recognized expert in sexuality and sex therapy, Dr. Pillai-Friedman has been invited to conduct grand rounds on sexuality related issues at medical schools. She is a visiting lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania, where she teaches sex therapy to doctoral students.

Dr. Pillai-Friedman serves on the Board of Living beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC) and frequently speaks to health care professionals, cancer survivors and patients about cancer and sexuality. She is also on the Scientific Advisory Board of Femme Pharma Global Heathcare.
